The role of technology within the kindergarten classroom I am in is not very large. They watch the random video about their alphabet letters and a movie once in a while but they have not really used laptops or tablets. I think that this is okay for kindergarten as most of the children learn with more hands on situations and copying after the teacher. My partner and I did have a small conversation with our cooperating teacher and she said herself that she hadn’t used much technology but in their classroom yet and that she was hoping to use it in the last couple of months. She also did mention that they have a classroom iPad that she wants to get more use out of so I assume she will try to incorporate that into her day at some point.
As for the rest of the school, they do have a computer room and I believe that they have a tablet/laptop cart in the library that you can take out.
I do believe that it is important for kindergarten’s to learn by doing things physically and such; However they are now being born into a technological generation and it would be good to start to incorporate a little bit of it into their learning so that they know how to use it properly.
