Waking up for my first day of field experience was like waking up for the first day of school again only I would not be the student! I finally get to see what it's like to be on the other side of things.
I spent some time with a couple of the kindergarten kids during playtime and it was very enjoyable. They were very open to having two strangers in their learning space and to tell me about themselves. A few of them asked me to read to them and they told me about themselves. One boy even mentioned to me that he got a booster shot the day before but he was tough enough that it didn't hurt. The learning environment reminds me of my kindergarten classroom, tiny desks with tiny chairs, a big play area with a ton of different things to do. There's a daily schedule and a monthly calendar. Their class has a daily routine of coming in and copying down words on a white board that correspond with a letter of the alphabet they are doing that day along with some key words about things that have already discussed. I liked this idea because it gets the kindergartens familiar with words and routine. This space brought back a lot of memories about my elementary school experience. from the little tables to the daily calendar routines the children do. Each day the have leaders who are selected out of a bag which was actually similar to what was done when I was in elementary school.
My very first day of observing in the classroom was great and I look forward to the weeks to come!
